Information on Personal Training & Tabata Bootcamp


  • July 9-11, 2021, attended the IDEA Health and Fitness Association's World Virtual Expo.

  • October 2020, taking a course on Nordic walking through Urban Poling.  What I'm learning will benefit my Virginia Trainer and Parkies Punch Back clients.

  • July 15, 2020, became an ACE (American Council on Exercise) Personal Trainer.  I finally found time to take the exam!

  • April 16, 2020, participated in a webinar given by Dr. Katharine Forth - Science-backed Balance Training.

  • February 25-28, 2020, listened to lectures regarding strategies and tools to assist with physical and mental health through Avaiya (online health, wellness and enlightenment network).  Lots was discussed, neuroplasticity, cellular detox, intermittent fasting and autophagy, how exercise dampens chronic inflammation, electrolytes, and more! 

  • November 2019, listened to Ryan Glatt, with Pacific Neuroscience Institute, give an informative lecture entitled, Brain Health and Exercise : Programming for the Future.

  • May 21, 2019, participated in a question and answer webinar conducted by the Parkinson Society British Columbia regarding balance and falls.

  • May 14, 2019, attended a workshop on improvisation and Parkinson's.  There were numerous neurobic activities demonstrated and practiced by the group. 

  • December 2018, traveled to Los Angeles and participated in a level 1 boxing class at Box 'N Burn Academy.

  • November 2018, traveled to San Diego for an all-day conference by the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society that covered aspects and treatment of PD.

  • April 2018, became certified in TRX Functional Training (TRX = Total Body Resistance Exercise).

  • In 2018, I focused more on my Parkinson's program.  I read books and papers on neuroplasticity and decided to include a neurobics element to my classes.

  • December 2017, I launched my own Parkinson's fitness program - Parkies Punch Back.

  • August 2017, traveled to Indianapolis to complete the Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) training workshop. RSB is a Parkinson's specific fitness program that incorporates non-contact boxing into their classes.

  • March 2017, attended a weekend Pilates Mat and Reformer workshop at the College of San Mateo.

  • January 2017, received certification from TRX (Total Body Resistance Exercise) Suspension Trainer. 

  • 2016, I decided to specialize in 30 and 45-minute workout sessions only.  You can get a lot done in 45 minutes and clients who were initially seeing me for 60-minute sessions were quick converts to 45 minutes! 

  • August 2016, completed online course, The Gluteals and Their Link to Low-Back Pain, through IDEA Health and Fitness Association.

  • November 2015, attended a three-day Pilates Reformer workshop at Center of Balance.

  • 2015 - Lots happened!  Expanded my gym by purchasing equipment that helped with functional training (e.g. sandbells, body bars, medicine balls, and suspension trainer).

  • July 2015, attended the World IDEA Health and Fitness Conference in Los Angeles.  Completed workshop and received BOSU trainer certificate.  A BOSU is a two-sided fitness tool; one side is a solid flat platform and the other is a soft (dome shaped) exercise ball.  Go to gallery section to see a picture of it.

  • 2015, took an online course concerning Applied Functional Science from the Gray Institute.

  • June 2014, participated in second Tabata workshop. This workshop was led by Mindy Mylrea, fitness professional and creator of Tabata Bootcamp.

  • 2014, started my business, Virginia Trainer. Clients came for 30, 45 or 60-minute workouts.  

  • March 2014, completed a seven-week online course, Nutrition, Health, and Lifestyle : Issues and Insights, through Vanderbilt University.

  • 2013-2014, attended Somatic classes. Somatics is a mind and body approach to releasing contracted muscles by using gentle movements.

  • December 2013, completed a three-month online course on the upper limb from the Perelman School of Medicine, Univ. of Pennsylvania.

  • June 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020 CPR/AED certification through the American Red Cross.

  • 2013, held a part-time position as a personal trainer.  Also, traveled to Seattle and Sacramento for workshops - I received a Metabolic Trainer certificate through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and Tabata Trainer certificate from Tabata Bootcamp.  When you hear Tabata, think high-intensity interval training.  

  • 2012-present, member of IDEA Health and Fitness Association.

  • April 2012, completed an 18-hour Physiology and Fitness lecture series.

  • 2012, completed an eight month internship at a health and wellness center in San Jose.  Worked three days a work for 15 hours a week.  Observed and worked alongside personal trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, massage therapists, a health coach, and chiropractor. 

  • Degrees from New York University (MA) and the College of Mt. St. Vincent (BA), cum laude.  Studied at the Sorbonne, Paris III, for one year.
